CONVENIENT EASY TO USE PREPAYMENT CARDS

These computer read/write cards offer a choice from one to twenty ride credits that do not expire. The card is also the customer’s time specified transfer when a credit is deducted.

Transit companies have the choice of offering volume discount for multiple rides, or deducting two credits during peak periods and one credit in off peak periods.

Our fare card system is designed to reduce cash paid at the farebox. Only the premium priced one ride cards may be purchased from the bus driver.

The prepayment cards would replace tickets, tokens, and transfers. Initially monthly passes should be offered, but may eventually be replaced by volume discount multiple ride cards because they do not expire.

All fare cards have serial numbers for point of sale tracking. As well, these numbers (after all credits have been deducted) become raffle numbers for a weekly transit recycling incentive subsequently reducing litter.

A market test of the system recorded that 60% of customers said they would ride transit more often if there was a chance to win $500 per week in fare card recycling raffle.

ON BOARD COMPUTER HARDWARE

The system is designed for integration with an existing farebox operation.

Our on-board computer interfaces with bus operating systems to record passenger data at each bus stop.

A driver keypad / fare card dispenser automatically changes destination sign when route number is entered, as well as dispensing and recording one ride card sales to cash paying customers.

Bus drivers will be able to record time and location of fare evasions using related keypad function key.

Fare card computer hardware can be adapted for entrance and exit gates at rapid transit stations and vehicle doors on LVR systems.

WHAT DOES THE SERVICE COST

The leasing of our computerized fare card system is intended to cost no more than you are now paying to collect a dollar of passenger revenue.

Such costs include:

  • Printing of tickets, transfers, and monthly distribution of passes
  • Handling and counting of cash collected in the fareboxes
  • Passenger surveys to account for cash shortages, expired transfers, and ticket/pass fraud
  • Annualized capital cost for automated fare collection equipment, if this infrastructure has not already been procured

Our computer fare card system is designed to work in combination with charging a premium for paying cash at the farebox. A premium is to discourage this form of payment at the farebox in order to reduce the costs and losses associated with handling large volumes of cash in the form of coin. On the other hand, features such as the recycling raffle incentive could have as much as half the former cash paying customers buying one ride cards from the drivers or at retail outlets.

POTENTIAL FOR MORE REVENUE

Additional passenger revenue may be generated by less frequent riders who are not deterred by the price of a one ride card. Many transit patrons may be willing to pay more to increase their chances of winning cash in a weekly fare card recycling raffle every time they ride.
